For the first time, two architects under the dome of the Egyptian Parliament

In an important step representing a new era for the state’s vision of the role that the architect plays in public affairs, and hence his role as a representative of the people, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi took a decision to appoint both Professor Sahar Attia, Professor and Head of the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University     Dalia Al-Saadani,  architectural designer and winner of International Design Award – Italy as members of the Egyptian Parliament within several names that have been appointed according to the percentage appointed by the President of the Republic It is noteworthy that the specified percentage always represents a special value, as it is intended to appoint prominent individuals from important social and professional groups, but by their nature they do not possess the necessary popularity to exceed voting rates in elections such as engineers and other groups of society or different cultural groups. This is the first time that architects have been appointed in the Egyptian parliament, reflecting a deeper understanding of the nature of the role the architect plays in public affairs. The presence of these personalities is expected to contribute strongly to the issuance of legislation that would control the urban system and preserve the Egyptian architectural and civilizational heritage, especially in thorny architectural and urban issues such as dealing with her...

An architecture competition for young architects and interior designers will be launched on first half of Jan. 2021. It's a major architectural competition named “Young Architects Competition 2021”, whose theme this year is “Design solutions for small spaces in light of Coronavirus pandemic challenges.” As a matter of fact, Coronavirus pandemic has added new challenges to architects, planners and interior designers in terms of creating livable interior spaces that are characterized by flexibility in use, sustainability and health safety. It's assumed that this epidemic continues threatening human lives. Consequently, it has become important to find safe spaces suitable for use in various purposes. It is certain that the matter is getting more difficult with small spaces in housing, commercial, educational or administrative sectors, which are activities that cannot stop under any circumstances. Selection of a graduation project blending different civilizations among the top 50 graduation projects around the world

Areej Badr El-Din, a graduate of the Modern Academy whose project was selected among the best graduation projects in the world in the "Archiprix International" Competition for architecture, came the top of her class at the Modern Academy. She is currently working as a demonstrator, and she is doing her M.Sc. (master's degree) at Cairo University. In her last academic year, Areej, like many other students, worked on preparing a different and distinct idea to be her graduation project entitled "THE SECRET OF EGYPT", which was classified among the best Graduation Projects in the world.  The idea of the project relies on the revival of civilizations, and it consists of two major parts: The first is a cultural museum that displays the monuments in the different stages, Pharaonic,  Coptic and Islamic, which Egypt went through. We can describe it as a journey through different civilizations. She designed its blocks from the outside in a way that expresses each civilization, using decorations and symbols, provided that its exterior design is modern to attract tourists. The second part is a skyscraper, allowing tourists to see the Nile from the highest point. The design idea of the project is inspired by the clock gears, to reflect how each civilization led up to the birth of the civilization that follows it.

? How to grasp the Islamic & Contemporary Architecture

Written by : Dr Khaled Azab This question may come as a surprise to the readers, researchers, and professors specialized in Islamic architecture and Islamic monuments, in specific. However, grasping the Islamic architecture is still a long way ahead, unfortunately. Many have immersed themselves in the orientalist studies revolving around the form rather than the content in the fields of architecture and Islamic monuments. This had an effect that lasted until the 21st century. Not only on the academic curriculum, but also on architectural designs, metaphorically known as Islamic. Everyone sought form rather than content, which is the essence of Islamic architecture. Moreover, it is this essence that made it eye-catching in terms of the ornamental form. Also, if the design is contemplated, questions with logical answers emerging from architectural engineering will be raised. This is in addition to other questions with no answers residing in the western and cotemporary consciousness as a part of the mysteries and magic of the East linked to the Arabian Nights tales.                                                                  &nbs...
