The Grand Egyptian Museum… The Link between the Civilization of the Past and the Modernity of the Present

Museum Description: The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is located west of Cairo near Giza pyramids. The selected location for this mega project is a witness to the greatness of Egypt in the past, present, and future. The museum is mainly designed to be the largest archeological museum in the world. Its area is about 117 feddans (500.000 sq. m.). It houses more than 100.000 artifacts belonging to both Pharaonic and Greco-Roman periods. It's expected to be visited by more than 5 million visitors annually. The museum will include a number of commercial and entertainment service buildings, a conservation and restoration center and a museum garden planting the trees that the ancient Egyptian used to know. The project will be carried out in three major phases at a cost of $ 550 million. During 2010, the second phase (Phase II) of the project was inaugurated which included a Conservation Center (CC) consisting of a number of tests and analyses labs such as Scanning Electron Microscope & Microbiology labs, in addition to Mummies & Human remains lab, Stone lab, Wood lab, and Ceramics, Glass and Metal labs. The third Phase (Phase III) of the project includes the construction of the museum's main exhibition hall which will display 100.000 ancient Egyptian artifacts, Schoolers museum, a Conference Center, an Archeological Library and the Child museum. The opening of the Sharm El Sheikh Museum

The total area of ​​the museum is 192,000 m, the exhibition area 5,000 m. The project works began in 2003 and stopped in 2011, and works on it were resumed again in 2018, when the cost of the project was 812 million pounds.   The museum contains a huge corridor called "The Royal Corridor" that displays the royal statues in the ancient Egyptian civilization, such as the statue of Queen Hatshepsut and her father, King Thutmose I, King Ramses II, and that of Hathor, goddess of goodness, beauty and music.   The museum displays the various facets of Egyptian civilization represented by 5,200 artifacts, carefully selected from the museum stores at El Manial Palace, Kom Oshim, Saqqara, the Suez museum, Ismailia museum, Greco-Roman museum in Alexandria and the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, as well as the stores of Luxor and Ashmounin in Minya, …etc.   Among the most important artifacts in the museum is a rare piece of mosaic from Alexandria dating back to the fourth century BC, a statue of the god "Eros" hunting deer, which is displayed at the entrance to the museum, and another rare statue of the god "Bes" from incomplete burning clay and will be placed in the hall of "Man & Wildlife". This is in addition to the newly discovered pieces in some archaeological sites to be displayed for the first time, thus enriching the museum's display system.

Development works for the historic Egyptian Postal Museum building at Al-Ataba

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly,  Egyptian Prime Minister, inspected the development and rehabilitation works of the historic Egyptian Postal Museum building in the Ataba area in central Cairo. He was accompanied by Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Major General Khaled Abdel Aal, Governor of Cairo, Eng. Ghada Labib, Deputy Minister of Communications for Institutional Development Affairs, Eng. Raafat Hindi, Deputy Minister of Communications for Infrastructure Affairs, and Dr. Sherif Farouk, Chairman of the Board of Directors (COB) of the National Post Authority. A project to restore the Revolutionary Command Council Museum

In 1949, King Farouk ordered the construction of a rest house for the king and a marina for royal yachts. The construction was completed in 1951, and in April 2017 the political leadership issued a presidential decree to annex the museum to the presidential palaces. Final preparations for royal mummies procession

Dr. Khaled Al-Anani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, held a meeting with the company executing the process of transporting royal mummies from the current place of their display in the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to the place of their permanent display in the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) in Fustat. The Museum of Modern Egyptian Art opens its doors to the public after its development
