431 million EGP for supplying and installation of compensators at El-Owainat Main Transformer station

In continuation of the efforts and the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy’s plan to strengthen the Egyptian transmission network, Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, witnessed signing of a contract between the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company and the Hitachi ABB for Power Grids for the supply and installation of Static Synchronous condenser- STATCOM devices. For the first time in the Egyptian grid at El-Owainat Main Transformer station on the high-voltage of 220 KV. In order to keep pace with the latest technologies to improve the performance of modern electrical networks in the world with a capacity of 200+ megafarad. The project aims to improve the grid’s performance and increase its reliability and stability in El-Owainat area to secure and improve the quality of electrical supply. The total value of the project is about 431 million EGP. The financing is done within the strategic projects of the Ministry of Electricity with an implementation period of about 18 months, starting from the date of signing the contract. Egypt, Japan discuss overhauling 35 Cairo subway second -line trains, according to the proposal of the Japanese company Mitsubishi

Egypt’s Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir held a meeting with Mr. Masaki Noke, Ambassador of Japan in Cairo, to discuss cooperation in overhauling and maintenance of 35 Cairo subway second-line trains which were supplied by Japanese company Mitsubishi since 1996. The two sides discussed the latest developments in the technical offer submitted by the Japanese company Mitsubishi to implement the manufacturing and supply of mobile units, CP 412 for the first phase of the fourth line of the metro.  Wazir emphasized the importance of developing and maintaining these trains as it would increase their efficiency, especially with the addition of air-conditioning. He added that cooperating with the National Egyptian Company for Railroad Industries is an essential part of this project, and that intensive meetings will be required between the National Tunnels Authority, NERIC and Mitsubishi to come up with the best plan for their development in a speedily manner. The Transport Ministry places great importance in developing the first and second lines of the subway, he said, alongside updating the current fleets in parallel with finalizing the subway network lines according to the latest technologies. Noting the depth of Egyptian-Japanese relations, Wazir pointed out the fruitful cooperation between both sides in multiple fields – particularly transportation and metro projects.
